Diamonds sparkled again on Oscar Night, with many celebrities favouring diamonds. The most noticeable trend this year was an array of statement necklaces.

Icecool diamonds takes a look at some of the amazing jewels of the night, and there's nowhere better to start than with Cate Blanchett who won Best Actress in a Leading Role, wearing a pair of stunning Chopard opal and diamonds earrings

Charlize Theron wore a huge diamond cluster necklace from Harry Winston's Incredible Collection, worth a staggering $15 million.

Margot Robbie wore a classic line diamond necklace with matching diamond studs, simple and stunning.

Naomi Watts sparkled in an amazing web like diamond collar and Serpenti diamond bracelet by Bulgari

Sandra Bullock wore pear shape ear cuffs by Lorraine Schwartz.

Emma Watson wore an array of stacking rings by a number of designers, which included a Chanel bow ring and star studded diamond hair clips by Jessica McCormick.

Jennifer Lawrence wore a Neil Lane diamond necklace draped down her back with simple diamond stud earrings.

Julia Roberts made a glittery display of Deco inspired jewels by Bulgari.

And this year even saw the men adding a touch of sparkle to their wardrobe with Michael B Jordan wearing diamond stud earrings and a star shaped collar clip.

The stage was set for an even bigger and better Baselworld and having just returned it left me wide-eyed and in awe of some of these incredible brands. Not only due to the amazing array of gems and jewels to be found on display, but also how the booths have been designed to truly reflect the brands values. From the likes of Breitling with their vast wooden paneled stand and giant fish tank as their centerpiece to Harry Winston, Chanel, Bulgari & Chopard with their huge boutique stands, creating a world within a world.

Within this extraordinary complex, we saw an array of new collections and innovations across both jewellery and watches this year. Below is a selection of some of the notable jewellery trends from this year's Baselworld 2013.

Diamonds & Colour

This year Emerald Green shone brightly from the many jewellery cases. In favor of last year's Sapphire Blue. With Green being the most abundant hue in nature, and the chosen Pantone colour of the year, it is no surprise we witnessed an array of Emerald pieces all complimented with diamond accent stones or smaller pave set diamond detailing.

Statement Pieces

Magnificent bold necklaces, rings, and earrings made a dramatic statement at this year's Baselworld. Breathtaking beauty and originality saw designers creating even bigger bolder pieces.

Decorative Metalwork's

Woven open patterned cuff bracelets, with a scattering of tiny diamonds, to intertwined diamond rings. Many of these pieces featured sinuous gold and diamonds to captivating airy mesh circles and ovals.

Pearlescent

Natural pearls were very much a trend of Basleworld 2012 and this year again we saw the booths flowing with pearls and diamonds worn in long layers. The pearls were classic white or grey in colour and were layered with eye-catching diamonds to compliment these organic gems.

Nature

Designers go back to Nature and find inspiration from the world around us, from floral rings to Butterfly pendants. Everywhere you looked you could see jewellery that had been made with the wonderful world of nature in mind.

Serpent Jewels a symbol of wisdom and protection.

2013 the year of the snake sees an even bigger array of sensual snake jewels twisting round fingers, ears and necks. Last year we saw this trend slowly moving forward, but this year the snake has been the design inspiration of some of the bigger jewellery brands from the likes of Bulgari to Roberto Coin.

Bonhams London sold a rare 5.30ct, fancy deep blue diamond yesterday for $9.5 million (£6.2 million) or $1.8 million per carat to Graff Diamonds. Over four times its pre-sale estimate. The previous record was $1.68 million per carat.

The fancy deep-blue cushion cut diamond is set in a 'Trombino' ring made by Bulgari, the renowned Italian jeweller. The ring was made in 1965. The diamond is mounted horizontally, pave set with briiliant cut diamonds and channel set baguette cut diamonds.

Jean Ghika, Director of Bonhams Jewellery Department said 'We are delighted with the price it has made. It was a sensational stone which charmed everyone who viewed it prior to the sale. Blue diamonds, especially those over 5.00 carats, are extremely rare to see on the market and continue to be highly sought-after. We are honored to have handled the sale of such a unique gem.'

Petra Diamonds have discovered a rare blue 25.5 carat blue diamond at its famous Cullinan mine in South Africa, that could be worth more than $10 million (£6.5million).

The diamond is a rare blue colour and Petra says that the stone is considered to be a 'high quality gem diamond of top colour'.

Blue diamonds are among the rarest and most highly coveted of all diamonds and the Cullinan mine is the most important source of blue diamonds in the world. Since Petra acquired the mine, it has produced a number of blue diamonds, including a 26.6 carat rough stone which was cut into a fancy vivid blue, internally flawless 7.0 carat stone. This important and rare diamond sold for $9.49 million (or $1.35 million per carat) at a Sotheby's auction in May 2009, being at the time the highest price per carat for any gemstone sold at auction and the highest price for a fancy vivid blue diamond sold at auction. It was subsequently named the 'Star of Josephine' by its new owner.

One of the most famous diamonds to be discovered at the Cullinan mine was the 'Great Star of Africa' in 1905, and is the 2nd largest diamond in the world. The Pear Shape diamonds weighs 530.20 carats and is mounted in the head of the ‘royal scepter'and can be viewed as part of the crown jewels on display at the Tower of London.
