Diamond Ring Found at Car Boot Sale Expected to Fetch £350,000

A diamond ring found at a car boot sale for just £10 is expected to sell for up to £350,000 at auction. The buyer initially believed it was costume jewellery and wore it daily for almost 30 years — never realising it was a genuine diamond.

💎 A Life-Changing Discovery at a Car Boot Sale

In the 1980s, a woman browsing a car boot sale in Isleworth, West London, spotted a large ring and bought it on impulse. Although it looked unusual, she liked the design and added it to her regular jewellery rotation.

Over time, she wore it constantly, thinking it was just a fun, decorative piece. However, years later, a local jeweller suggested it might be more valuable than she assumed. That single conversation set an incredible chain of events in motion.

Experts Confirm It’s a 26-Carat Diamond

Wanting clarity, she brought the ring to Sotheby’s, where jewellery specialist Jessica Wyndham arranged testing through the Gemological Institute of America. To everyone’s amazement, results confirmed it was a 26.27-carat cushion-cut diamond — and likely dated back to the 19th century.

Wyndham recalled, “They brought it in thinking it might be real. We had it tested and told them, ‘I think that’s a diamond.’”

From £10 Purchase to Six-Figure Auction Estimate

As a result of the discovery, Sotheby’s placed the ring in an upcoming auction scheduled for July 7th. Experts now estimate it could sell for as much as £350,000. Not surprisingly, the anonymous owner was both shocked and overjoyed by the discovery. After all, who wouldn’t be?

The Mysterious History Behind the Diamond

Although the ring’s exact origin remains uncertain, its antique cut and craftsmanship suggest it once belonged to someone of wealth and status. Somehow, it made its way to a folding table at a local car boot sale — a twist of fate that turned a £10 purchase into a life-changing discovery.
